Cliff Byrne

Clifford joined the Iron on a permanent basis in 2003 following a successful loan the previous season. The former Irish U-21 international signed a three-year deal after being released by first division Sunderland. Clifford had trials with Celtic, Hearts and Blackburn before signing for Sunderland in 1997. He captained the club at under-17, under-18 and under-19 level and had spent the past couple of seasons as a regular fixture in the Reserves. Clifford has settled in well at Glanford Park and usually plays in a right-back role. He is solid and dependable. Signed a new deal in summer 2006.
